Colleen Ballinger, aka Miranda Sings for the OGs, has uploaded a video in response to the grooming allegations. And it's a 10-minute long ukulele song.
YouTuber Colleen Ballinger who rose to fame about a decade ago as "Miranda Sings" has now responded to the grooming allegations she had to face. Former fans spoke out against her, accusing her of grooming, manipulating and bullying minors back in 2020.
Now she let us hear her side of the story. And hear we did, because Colleen actually wrote a 10-minute song. In all of YouTube's "apology and/or response" video history, that's a first.
Responding To Crime Allegations With An Ukulele
In a video simply titled "hi." Colleen busts out her ukulele and honestly it's a little jarring. Gaining popularity as the character Miranda Sings who overestimates her talent and then, years down the line, singing as Colleen herself about how "the only thing she ever groomed are her two persian cats" is ironic at best and outright stupid and tactless at worst.
- Ironic would be linking the ukulele I actually got for my birthday, right?
Every time she pauses while singing it feels like "oh, now she's getting serious. Finally." But alas, she takes a deep breath, maybe says a thing or two and starts getting into the next verse or chorus. the song's about the "toxic gossip train", by the way.
Colleen musically denied the allegations of course. She just messaged fans and there's nothing more to it, according to her. She simply wanted to be friends with her audience and has since grown, set boundaries and grown from her mistakes.
Maybe, just maybe, there would have been a better way to get her innocence across than (apparently) not taking that situation seriously.
Thinking she seriously sat down and wrote a song about really grave allegations and everything that came after them (like her receiving death threats, and guys: not cool) and thought "Yeah, that's a good idea" is just really bizarre.
Maybe she should have listened to her team that advised her not to "say what she wants to say" instead of finding the loophole and instead singing about it.
