If you've managed to escape the ultimate ELO hell known as Silver, you'll be assigned a Gold rank, which officially places you above the average players. This rank tier comprises 21.1% of the entire player base, distributed as follows:

RankTop % of all players% of players in this rank
Gold 152.7%

7.7%

Gold 245%6.9%
Gold 338.1%6.5%

So, you find yourself in the top 50% of the player base, statistically giving you an advantage in winning three out of four duels in Valorant. In our experience, Gold rank was the hardest to achieve but the easiest to climb from.

How Good is Gold Rank in Valorant?

We consider Gold to be a commendable rank. It signifies that you are better than 75% of the player base, which is quite an accomplishment, especially for a casual gamer. At the Gold tier, you'll encounter more players who are truly dedicated and opt for the metagame Agents.

However, if you fail to give your best and perform adequately, you might not remain in this rank for long. On the other hand, if you do put in the effort, we believe that reaching Platinum is just a matter of time, as Gold is relatively easy to progress from. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that you can expect significant RR gains in this rank tier (around +25 RR per win). Consequently, winning four games in a row is usually enough to secure a rank-up.

To summarize, everything at the Gold rank is considered above average. This includes aim skills, movement, understanding of the economy, and game mechanics. Achieving Gold as your first rank is a promising indication for your future progression in the Valorant ranked ladder.

How Many Hours Does It Take To Achieve Gold?

If you have prior experience playing FPS games like Counter-Strike, you should be able to achieve this rank inunder 500 hours, possibly even as few as 200 hours. In fact, Counter-Strike veterans may attain it as their initial rank in less than 20 hours of gameplay. However, if you are new to shooters, especially considering the challenges of progressing from Silver, it will likely take you 500 hours or more to reach the Gold rank.

How To Improve From Gold

  • Stay updated with the metagame. Gold is full of tryhards, so you need to try your best too, even more, than the others. Follow the popular strategies and keep an eye on eSports events and Valorant streams, as they greatly influence the metagame.
  • Learn the ability lineups for your main Agent. With a good understanding of the metagame, prioritize practicing the lineups that counter popular strategies. If your main Agent doesn't offer much in the current metagame, it might be worth considering a switch to a more effective Agent if you want to climb the ranks.
  • Ensure that your gaming setup is optimized. Your PC, mouse, keyboard, microphone, internet connection, and in-game settings should all contribute to a high-quality gaming experience. Lag should be avoided at all costs. You can take inspiration from professional players like TenZ to fine-tune your gear. To make sure you've got good gear, check out Amazons offers!
  • It's important to keep your ego in check. Many players experience a boost in ego and self-confidence upon reaching the Gold rank. While confidence can be beneficial, having an excessively high ego can negatively impact your gameplay. It can distort your perception of the game, disrupt your match expectations, and lead to frustration and tilt. By managing your expectations and avoiding tilt, you can cultivate a calmer mindset, focus on the game at hand, and increase your chances of securing victories.

So now you've got everything you need to know. Good luck with climbing up the ranks and see you again in Platinum!
