Although Omen might not always the best pick in the metagame for the Controller class, he is a fascinating character to play, and you can definitely climb ranks with him. That said, let's take a closer look at Omen, his abilities, and strategies that work best when playing this particular Agent!

Valorant Omen Abilities

As with all Controllers, Omen is expected to be the primary smoker in the team composition, yet his ability kit allows for many more interesting and unusual plays. It contains 2 different teleports, one smoke, and one flashbang.

Shrouded Step

Official Ability Description: EQUIP a shadow walk ability and see its range indicator. FIRE to begin a brief channel, then teleport to the marked location.

Cast Distance15 meters max
Duration1.2 seconds

Omen's teleport is the first ability that no other Controller class Agent has. It allows us to quickly change positions or enter places we wouldn't normally be able to get to. However, the cast distance of this ability is relatively short, which reduces the variety of this teleport (unlike Yoru's Gatecrash).

Since your enemies can also hear the audio cues of this ability, we love using Omen's teleport for faking. What do we mean by that? For example, when your opponents notice you at a specific angle, you can use the teleport just for the audio cues alone, which will make the enemy team convinced that this position is clear, and they won't check it anymore.

You can also try to teleport yourself into smoke, but this is something players are increasingly expecting, so it's not as effective as it was in the Beta Days, for example.

Paranoia

Official Ability Description: INSTANTLY fire a shadow projectile forward, briefly reducing the vision range of all players it touches. This projectile can pass straight through walls.

Default KeyQ
Cost300 Credits
Charges1
Radius7.5 meters

As a second ability, we have a pretty unique flashbang that can go through walls. As you can see in the video above, your enemies still can see you if you get too close, even if they get blinded by this ability, so keep this in mind when using it. The fact that it goes through walls can help you when pushing directly in to a specific position, plus it may be hard to counter sometimes.

This ability is also a thing that makes Omen pretty hard to play. If you don't know the popular angles, you might be flashing random positions and, therefore, miss a lot of value out of this ability.

Dark Cover (Signature Ability)

Official Ability Description: EQUIP a shadow orb and see its range indicator. FIRE to throw the shadow orb to the marked location, creating a long-lasting shadow sphere that blocks vision. HOLD ALTERNATE FIRE while targeting to move the marker further away. HOLD the ability key with targeting to move the marker closer.

Default KeyE
Cost150 Credits

Deploy Distance

80 meters max

Radius4.1 meters
Orb Travel Speed64 meters per second
Smoke Duration15 seconds

As we mentioned earlier, Omen's primary use is to be the team's main smoker, and so here we have a pretty unique smoke ability. First of all, as this is Omen's Signature Ability, you are guaranteed one charge for free. And secondly, you can place this smoke virtually anywhere!

This smoke is incredibly accurate; you can even choose at what height you want it, which allows for some juicy one way smokes. Plus, it does not require lineups – all you need to know are map angles and popular positions.

From The Shadows (Ultimate Ability)

Official Ability Description: EQUIP a tactical map. FIRE to begin teleporting to the selected location. While teleporting, Omen will appear as a Shade that can be destroyed by an enemy to cancel his teleport.

Default KeyX
Cost7 Ultimate Points
Duration4 seconds

And lastly, we have Omen's Ultimate Ability, which is a teleport that allows you to go into any place you want on the map. Yup, anywhere! Plus, for the duration of using this ability, the enemy team cannot see their radar. The only downside of this ability is that your enemies can destroy the teleport by killing your shade, but you can always cancel it before this happens.

How To Play Omen?

Always Buy & Use Your Smokes

Smoke is your most important ability, and as we mentioned earlier, you can throw it absolutely anywhere on the map, which will be helpful especially in eco rounds where your resources are limited. We encourage you to use both smokes in absolutely every round, although it is worth noting that you should try to have some strategy so that you don't throw them out blindly either.

In short, play around your smokes. Try to make as much value as you can from your smoke ability, and we promise you some easy round wins.

Use Your Ult To Grab & Plant a Dropped Spike

This strategy is familiar to any experienced Omen player. It relies on the fact that if your teammates have lost a Spike in a particular spot, you want to go to the Spike Site that you suspect empty and go to the plant spot.

Then you want to teleport to exactly where the Spike is and quickly cancel your Ultimate Ability so that your opponents don't have a chance to destroy it. Later, you return to the plant spot and quickly plant Spike. Rarely will this strategy win you a round if you are left alone against 5 enemies, but it is still a decent trade of your Ult Points for extra Credits for the team, and yet it will still often be better than just saving your weapon.

TLDR? Here's a step-by-step guide to make things simpler for you:

  1. Go to an empty Spike Site
  2. Head to a plant area
  3. Use your Ult to teleport into a dropped Spike
  4. Cancel your Ult as fast as you can
  5. Plant the Spike on the empty spike Site

Go For Mindgames

Unlike other Controller Agents like Brimstone or Viper, your ability kit allows you to mess with your opponents' heads, and you should take advantage of that. One of Omen's greatest strengths is that he can be incredibly unpredictable. Sometimes it's worth thinking what your opponents expect and do the total opposite play. Moreover, you should also change positions frequently, be where you were not before and try to teleport to places where you have the best chance of being unnoticed.

That will be it for our Omen Agent guide! As mentioned in this article many times, knowing as many angles and positions as possible is key to good Omen gameplay. That said, we encourage you to check out our tactical map guides for all the maps in Valorant. Yup, all of them:
