The Callisto Protocol Is In The "Finish And Polish" Stage

Glen Schofield, a veteran of the gaming industry who now runs the studio behind the game The Callisto Protocol, has given an update on the horror game. On Twitter, Schofield shared an image from a motion capture studio where actors work to bring the game's characters to life. Schofield said this is his favorite phase of game development, when the design starts to come together.

Schofield also revealed that the game may be closer to release than some may have suspected, saying that the developers are in the "finish and polish" phase.

When Is The Callisto Protocol Coming Out?

[Update]

The Callisto Protocol is coming out on December 2, 2022. It's going to release for Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

[Original]

Striking Distance Studios hasn’t provided an official release date for The Callisto Protocol. However, they’ve noted that their science-fiction horror game will release sometime in 2022. That means I’ll know more about The Callisto Protocol’s release date by E3 2022. Until then, I can confirm that this game is being developed for next-generation consoles. This means that our PS4s and Xbox Ones won’t be enough to handle The Callisto Protocol.

Which Platforms Are Supported For The Callisto Protocol?

Glen Schofield founded Striking Distance Studios in June 2019. Shortly afterwards, he announced The Callisto Protocol was for next-generation consoles. This means you’ll be capable of downloading this game onto the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Guess I’ll need to upgrade before Striking Distance Studios launches The Callisto Protocol in 2022.

Where Does The Callisto Protocol Take Place?

This is where I started to get excited. It was confirmed that The Callisto Protocol is taking place in the future. We will be hurdled 300 years into the future on one of Jupiter’s moons. But what has changed since 2022? What conspiracies and adventures can we expect? That’s something I don’t know for now. However, I can say that this game is centered around the Black Iron Prison of Callisto. This will become the primary setting for The Callisto Protocol.

Is The Callisto Protocol Connected To PUBG?

I’m about to surprise you and make you think, what’s going on? It’s been confirmed that The Callisto Protocol is set within the same universe as PUBG: Battlegrounds. That’s right, you heard me. This upcoming science-fiction horror game is centered 300 years after the events of PUBG. However, I’m not expecting PUGB to have numerous connections with The Callisto Protocol. Glen Schofield has already confirmed that these two games will have minor similarities, so you can expect this next-generation title to maintain its own vibe.

Everything We Know About The Callisto Protocol So Far | Features & Story Mode

There’s more information than you would expect about The Callisto Protocol. Initially, we learned that an unknown infection has plagued the Black Iron Prison. This sickness causes humans to become ungodly creatures that roam around the prisons corridors. These creatures are vicious and will attack you without a moment’s notice. But I’m more interested to see how Striking Distance Studios will incorporate robotic androids into The Callisto Protocol. Can we control these androids? Will this assist with killing the infection? Who knows, but these are questions I’d like answered sooner than later.

There are significant similarities between the cinematic footage for Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol. That’s because Striking Distance Studios is developing a spiritual successor for the Dead Space franchise. But I wouldn’t expect any characters from the former series to return in The Callisto Protocol. Both games take place in separate universes. Plus, Electronic Arts has already confirmed that they’re making a Dead Space 4.

We’re introduced to an unknown character in the trailer. He ultimately dies, but I think this character could make a brief appearance within the campaign. But he won’t be the protagonist that we meet. Instead, that protagonist appears to arrive at Black Iron Prison by spaceship, so I’ll be interested to see if Striking Distance Studios showcases their primary character for The Callisto Protocol.

As I’ve previously mentioned, there won’t be any universal connections between the Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol franchises. However, there is one similarity. The trailer showed an unknown prisoner wearing some variation of the diegetic HUD System. Anyone that played the Dead Space franchise is familiar with the Diegetic Hud System. It allowed us to review our health, armor, guns, and cosmetic suits. So, I’m hoping that this feature makes a return with some updated options. However, Striking Distance Studios hasn’t confirmed how the diegetic HUD system will work in The Callisto Protocol.

Needless to say, I’m excited about the possibilities with this upcoming game. I’ve waited and hoped for a genuine successor to the Dead Space franchise. So, you can expect some updates once Striking Distance Studios announces some more information on The Callisto Protocol.

Will The Callisto Protocol Have A Special Edition?

Come on, how could Striking Distance Studios avoid having a special edition for The Callisto Protocol? It’s the perfect game to create an exciting box set for dedicated fans. Honestly, I’d even consider buying this game in-store if the special edition provided some artwork or physical statue. But if The Callisto Protocol is limited to DLC for their special edition, I’ll be downloading this game direct to my PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Either way, I cannot provide any details regarding The Callisto Protocol: Special Edition. There won’t be any more information until Striking Distance Studios announces the official release date for their upcoming game. Here’s hoping that’s soon.

Game Trailer

It’s been emphasized by Striking Distance Studios that the announcement trailer is cinematic. However, this upcoming game is being designed with Unreal Engine 5. That means we’re guaranteed to experience a visually impressive game. But I wonder if the realism will become too much for most gamers to handle. Could seeing your worst nightmares in a realistic setting be too horrific? Who knows, but you can bet I’ll be playing this game with the lights on.

Game System Requirements

Let’s rejoice; The Callisto Protocol isn’t limited to one console. We have access to this game across all next-generation consoles. This means the Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and PC are supported. But what PC requirements have been suggested for this upcoming title? Let’s find out. You could be due for an upgrade.
