Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story - Release Date, Champions, Gameplay & More

The Song of Nunu will be the newest addition to Riot Games' ever-growing list of games, set in the universe of League of Legends. The game will follow the adventures of the two popular LoL characters Nunu and Willump. It was announced to be released in 2023, and since the year hasn't that many months left, a release might already be on the horizon.

Now, a new teaser was released on the Riot Forge twitter page, which sparked rumors in the community about an upcoming real game play trailer. So, in this article we will tell you everything you need to know about the release date, the game play and possible characters in The Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story.

Song of Nunu: The Story

The Game is set in the freezing north of the League of Legends World "Runterra", called "The Freljord". Many prominent LoL champs are hailing from this region, including the game's main characters Nunu and Willump.

And for everyone who isn't that deep into the League of Legends base game, Nunu is the little boy and Willump the Yeti-like creature. So, with this out of the way, let's take a look at the story and what's known about it so far.

The game follows the story of Nunu and how he meets Willump, while searching the region for his mother. David Canela, from the developer studio Tequila Works, describes the base story as followed,

Song of Nunu is a single player narrative adventure. As Nunu, you are looking for your mother. This road trip, you are doing it with your best friend. Willump is like the biggest teddy bear you have ever seen. He's like a father, or protector to Nunu.

CEO & Creative director Raul Rubio, said about the background of Nunu and his folk, the Notai,

You have the Notai. The Notai dont believe in war, they believe in stories. As the Notai say, you can't kill a story, and you can't kill a song. Nunu is a Notai boy, and he has a magical flute.

According to the devs, the Flute can make different elements in the environment react to its noted and sounds. So, we can expect many puzzles, riddles and challenges. Another main focus of the story is of course the relationship between Nunu and Willump, which is so deep, that they are played as a single champion in the League of Legends base game.

Lead Programmer, Estefanía Salcedo, describes the relationship in more detail," We put so much care into the relationship between Nunu and Willump. They play together, they laugh together, and they cry together. They take care of each other."

And according to the game description in stores, like steam and Epic Games, we will encounter many other popular League of Legends characters like Braum, Ornn, Volibear and Lissandra. On the official game website, Lissandra has an own section directly beside the Nunu and Willump ones.

So this could mean, that she will be the antagonist of the story. It will be interesting to see, the whole story, once the game gets released and how the deep connection between Nunu and Willump will be shown throughout the story.

And since the Freljord region has many champions to offer, we might even encounter more LoL champions during our playtime.

Song of Nunu: The Gameplay

The game footage shown so far, had a more comic like graphics style and a third person, over the shoulder angle. The devs already mentioned different aspects of the game like challenges and puzzles, which have to be solved.

Also, the mentioned magical flute plays a huge role in the game, since a trailer showed, how Nunu created a frozen bridge with it. And we already got a quick look into a battle between a pack of Wolves and Nunu& Willump, in which Nunu used a magical spell to block an attacking wolves.

So we could maybe expect some more magical spells for all sort of problems, beside solving riddles and fighting. Regarding the movement in the game, the devs mentioned jumping, climbing and a trailer even showed Nunu& Willump sliding down a snow covered hill, with Willump as the slide.

The most important aspect of the gameplay, are of course the also mentioned snowball fights between our two main characters. So wholesome. It seems to be the case, that the Freljord region will have different environments, with light snow covered areas, where we can see Nunu riding on Willump, or areas with heavy snowstorms, where Willump has to carry Nunu in his arms and protect him from the winds.

Song of Nunu: Release Date, Platforms & Price

Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is set to be released in 2023, or to be more specific, in the fall of 2023, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, the Xbox One and Xbox Series and on PC. So it won't be a platform exclusive title.

Also, there are no information about the possible price of the game and which technical requirements are needed to play it. Of course, we will keep you up-to-date, once more news about it are available.

For Pc users the game will be purchasable on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game is developed by Tequila Works and will be published by the original League of Legends developer studio and publisher, Riot Games.
