Recently, Nick “NICKMERCS” Kolchef has been under fire for his comments regarding the LGBTQ+ community. Activision even removed the operator bundle they designed based on the popular Twitch streamer because of those. But instead of Nick getting “canceled”, he even increased in popularity.

NICKMERCS is one of the biggest Twitch streamers and content creators out there. Known for playing and streaming popular video games (especially Battle Royals) such as Fortnite and Call of Duty, he managed to amass millions of followers.

NICKMERCS LGBTQ Controversy Explained

To give you a small rundown on the situation, Nick has found himself at the center of controversy as a result of a tweet that appeared to be anti-LGBTQ+. The tweet in question was a response to a video showing anti-LGBT protestors attacking pro-LGBT demonstrators outside a school.

NICKMERCS' response, “They should leave little children alone. That's the real issue.”. The tweet immediately gained attention on social media with many people being absolutely flabbergasted at his response.

In response to the controversy, the devs of Call of Duty made the decision to remove NICKMERCS' Operator Skin from the game. They not only removed the skin, but also deleted the associated trailer and the CoD blog post about his Operator skin.

NICKMERCS Gains Followers Despite Backlash

You would think that with even Activision taking action like this, that NICKMERCS would be in hot waters at the moment, but instead he is actually gaining followers.

Looking at SocialBlade, you can see that ever since his controversial statement, Nick has actually gained tens of thousands of followers on Twitter every day!

Instead of the expected decline in followers, Nick is actually thriving, even though he would probably prefer that increase to be reflected in his Twitch statistics as well.
