Sony's Spider-Man Universe gets bigger and bigger: Kraven the Hunter is going to join in on the fun. Here's what you need to know about the upcoming release, including the date, cast, trailer and the plot.
The Spider-Verse is ever expanding and with the success of Venom it seems smart to get another iconic villain of the friendly neighbourhood web-slinger onto our screens.
That's where Kraven the Hunter makes his big debut: as a founding member of the Sinister Six – Spidey's biggest enemies (like Doctor Octopus, Electro and Sandman) – Kraven is gonna go hunting soon. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming villain movie.
- Not gonna lie, movie-Kraven looks a bit more menacing than comic-Kraven.
Kraven the Hunter | Release Date
After being pushed back several times, Kraven the Hunter is set to release on August 30, 2024. Bad news: waiting is not my strong suit. The good news: that's Labor Day Weekend! Let's just hope that the SAG-AFTRA strike doesn't lead to another rescheduling.
Initially, Kraven the Hunter was supposed to hit the screens in January 2023. That obviously didn't happen, the next date was set in October 2023 and that won't work out, either – August 2024 it is, then! Let's dive a bit deeper if we've got time on our hands, shall we? Kraven the Hunter | Plot
Well, that looked... bloody. And no Spider-Man in sight, but who needs him anyway? Looks like we'll get Kraven's origin story instead but with a different spin than in the original comics.
He doesn't care for Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man just yet and his arachnophobia surely doesn't have anything to do with that – let's focus on the big game for now.
Well, big game and people that just wait to have their faces bitten off. No wonder that Kraven the Hunter is going to be the first Marvel movie from Sony that's R-rated.

The movie is directed by J.C. Chandor and written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. The actual cast of the movie looks pretty promising as well:
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven
- Russell Crowe as Kraven's father
- Christopher Abbott as The Foreigner
- Ariana DeBose as Calypso
- Alessandro Nivola as The Rhino
- Fred Hechinger as Dimitri aka Chameleon
And here's hoping for a little Spider-Man cameo, maybe by Tom Holland himself? But as he's infamous for not being able to keep secrets, I'm pretty sure we'd know of his involvement as soon as someone mentions the movie in his vicinity.
