Max Rank in Rocket League

The maximum and highest rank in Rocket League is Supersonic Legend. This is the single most prestigious rank to be sitting at, and the sign of an incredible player. Even in the pro-player world a Supersonic Legend ranking is extremely rare (as we will get into later), as was confirmed by Stake from Karmine Corp in our recent interview.

Interestingly, Supersonic Legend is actually a new rank that was introduced when the game went free-to-play in 2020. Originally, the highest rank that you could reach was Grand Champion. What's interesting is that only a small portion of those who had reached Grand Champion before the shift actually made it to the level of Supersonic Legend. Why? Well, we'll take a look at that in a little while. For now, let's quickly break down all the ranks for you!

From the data established in the table above, we can derive that the population of Rocket League players who are at a Supersonic Legend level, represents only the tiniest amount of the overall player base. In the meantime, though, you should check out our full breakdown of Rank Distribution in Rocket League. We go into deep detail!

Why Are There So Few Supersonic Legends in Rocket League?

You can see when analyzing the rank distribution of Supersonic Legends players that this is an extremely rare and prestigious level to be at. This would predominantly be because it is the highest rank and the max rank that is available in Rocket League, but also because of the basic premise behind how ranking up actually works.

In Rocket League, to rank up for both the purpose of rising among the competitive ranks, and picking yourself up some of those delicious ranked rewards, you need to undergo quite a complicated process. First you must face your ten placement matches, which will plop you at a starting position in the ranking hierarchy.

Then you need to verse other players in Rocket League's ranked mode and to move up to the top of the list, you have to be consistently beating other players of the same and higher ranks than you. This means that you need to be consistently beat other Supersonic Legends players. This is why there are so few Supersonic Legends players – it's just that bloody hard!
