LoL Event Passes Need Changes According To Players

Event passes have been part of League of Legends for about five years now. They have originally been introduced as part of the 2018 World Championship Event. Despite many changes to pass progression, most players are still unhappy about the current state of event passes and ask for changes.

While event-specific content has been the norm in League of Legends for almost a decade, event passes are a relatively new addition. The first ever event pass has been offered for purchase during the 2018 World Championship event, with K/DA Kai'Sa featuring as the first ever Prestige skin.

Due to poor token earning rates, only few ever got their hands on this skin before it was eventually brought back in Hextech Crafting's mythic essence shop.

While the days of extreme grinding are long gone, earning a Prestige skin is still a time-demanding task. Collecting the tokens necessary to claim the skin without buying additional tokens takes about five games per day. Queue times, champion selects and remakes do not help you progress. Losing will grant you a lower amount of points than winning, which makes losing streaks extra painful.

However, the skin is obviously not the only reward that you can claim through event tokens. Various champions receive chromas on their skins. If you would like to claim a different Prestige skin, you can also purchase 100 Mythic Essence instead, which cost 2200 event tokens. If you do not want anything champion-specific, you can also pick up event orbs to earn different skin shards.

Are League of Legends Event Passes Too Grind Heavy?

The current token drop rates are ideal for players who only want to get one Prestige skin per event. Those who would like to pick up additional loot have to invest even more than five games per day. Players who want to earn both Prestige skins would have to play ten games per day on average. That is nearly impossible for students or workers to maintain over multiple weeks.

While Riot have tackled issues with event pass progression in the past, it has been a while since they talked about this specific topic. Players are now more desperate than ever for an update to event passes that lets them earn more rewards per pass purchase. However, with the current event pass price sitting at 1650 RP – and therefore right between epic and legendary skins – it is safe to say that such a pass would be more expensive to buy.
