EA Sports, following the end of the FIFA series, will shut down servers for several FIFA games – even some of the more recent titles are affected. We'll show you how long the FIFA servers will remain online.

EA is shutting down their servers. Many FIFA fans jokingly ask, "were the servers ever fully operational?" Server issues and crashes have been a part of the FIFA experience for years.

However, soon EA will intentionally cause server crashes for some FIFA titles, which is likely to anger some FIFA players even more than the unintentional server problems.

With their separation from FIFA and their new game, EA Sports FC, the publisher apparently no longer wants the FIFA series to be associated with them. Alternatively, they might not want to continue maintaining the FIFA series. Several FIFA titles will be terminated within 2023 and will no longer receive updates or offer online capabilities.

FIFA 18, FIFA 19, FIFA 20 & FIFA 21: FIFA-Server Will Be Shut Down In November 2023

According to EA, all FIFA 21 online modes will end on November 6, 2023. The same applies to FIFA 18, FIFA 19 and FIFA 20. All platforms are affected, i.e. the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

That's quite early when you consider that quite a few FIFA gamers still like to play the FIFA games from previous years and don't want to get the latest FIFA game every year.

Only the solo player modes such as the kick-off or career mode are then available for these FIFA players. This could become quite boring over time. These modes have never changed much to be honest, so if you want to continue playing your old career, you can continue to do so.

Why Are The FIFA Servers Shutting Down?

We don't want to accuse EA Sports of any malice or laziness in maintaining their servers. Yes, the servers have always had their issues, but at least they run.

The reason for the shutdown likely has to do with licensing agreements. EA Sports' separation from FIFA doesn't just impact the latest football simulation game. It also affects the past FIFA titles because, naturally, EA is less interested in having previous FIFA games functioning when the World Football Federation releases FIFA 25 in the near future.

To avoid further disputes or confusions, EA has taken the simple route and is shutting down the servers. We anticipate that FIFA 22 might not offer online modes for much longer.

However, FIFA 23 is not impacted by this targeted server collapse. This means you can still play all online modes in FIFA 23 even after November 6. For the FIFA community, we hope this remains the case for a long time, just in case the new FIFA installment turns out to be a flop... we'll keep you updated.
