Diablo 4: Popular No More According To Viewership Data

Diablo 4 was one of the biggest hits of 2023, but as Twitch viewership drops, so does the popularity of this game.

Diablo 4 was released back in June and has ridden high ever since. It's one of the best releases of 2023, with only games like Hogwarts Legacy and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom able to keep up with it.

But now, months after the release, some feel that the hypse has died down and more and more players are turning to other games, like the newly released Baldur's Gate 3 for their form of entertainment. Is Diablo 4 dead?

Diablo 4: Viewers Have Lost Interest

Now it isn't anything new to have fewer viewers after a few weeks of month after launch for a game. Sure, some titles like League of Legends, Counter Strike and Fortnite bring in consistent viewership numbers, but other games ride the highs and lows of Twitch.

Diablo 4 has been riding the highs and now they've hit unexpected lows... and quite low ones. According to the third party Twitch viewer analytics service sullygnome.com, Diablo has fallen from around a million peak daily views to just about 13,000 within three weeks of its release.

Yes, it's summer and the weather is good, you want to go outside, but that is still crazy to think how quickly the hype died down, especially with Diablo 4 being the key live-service experience from Blizzard, right?

By Early August 2023, Diablo 4 has lost almost 98% of viewership from launch on Twitch. Now viewership doesn't mean the game is dead, but with a live-service game like Diablo 4, there have to be players playing the game for Blizzard to keep up maintenance and often viewership on Twitch or other streaming services suggest interest in the game.

Hopefully with more updates and more additions of novelty content to the game, Diablo 4 can go back to the highs it experienced early on. If Blizzard continues to ignore the community though about issues within the game, then we'll have to see just how long this game lasts or whether it'll be an Overwatch 2 situation with Diablo 4.
