Much like the shop, Diablo 4's Battle Pass takes inspiration from the Battle Pass in Call of Duty. And when we say "takes inspiration", we mean that it's basically an exact copy, but with different rewards.

But for those of you who don't play CoD, here is a guide on how the Battle Pass works, how much each edition costs, and what kind of rewards you can expect. We hope you find it helpful.

Note to Deluxe & Ultimate Edition Owners: You guys already own the first season's Battle Pass (it was one of the bonuses), and so you can skip the section on price.

Diablo 4 Battle Pass: Release Date

The first Diablo 4 Battle Pass will arrive with the launch of Season 1 on July 20, 2023, at 10:00 am PT (1:00 pm ET / 6:00 pm BST / 7:00 pm CEST). From there on out, every new season will introduce a new Battle Pass. This means we will get a new Battle Pass every three months.

If this is your first Battle Pass, don't be alarmed that you only have three months to complete it. That's actually a fairly long time compared to many live-service game these days.

How The Diablo 4 Battle Pass Works

If you have ever played any game with a Battle Pass, please skip this section. Blizzard are using a very traditional Battle Pass structure in Diablo 4, which is similar to the one used in other Activision games like Call of Duty. But keep reading if you don't know what that is.

The Diablo 4 Battle Pass is basically a track of rewards that goes from level 1 to level 90. As players advance through the levels, they unlock a wide range of rewards, including cosmetic items such as character skins, weapon skins, mount skins, and other customization options. In addition to cosmetic items, the Battle Passes also offers in-game currency, and boosters called Smoldering Ashes (more on that later).

There is a "Premier" tier for the Diablo 4 Battle Pass, and a "Free" tier. Players who pay for the Premium Battle Pass unlock additional exclusive rewards. Overall, the Battle Pass system aims to provide players with a continuous sense of progression, engagement, and rewards throughout the season, enhancing the overall experience and encouraging long-term player commitment.

So, a Battle Pass is basically a set of 90 rewards that can be earned by playing a lot during the season. Once the season is over, you can no longer earn any rewards from the Battle Pass, and it will be replaced by a new Battle Pass for the new season.

Note: To get access to the Battle Pass, you will have to create a new seasonal character each season. Your characters in the "eternal realm" will not be able to unlock Battle Pass rewards.

Diablo 4 Battle Pass: All Versions & Prices

We spoke about this in the intro, but if you've played CoD recently, you'll chuckle at just how similar the Battle Pass is here. We have three different versions of the Battle Pass we can get each month:

Premium$10 / £890 Battle Pass RewardsNone
Accelerated$25 / £2090 Battle Pass RewardsFirst 20 levels of Battle Pass already completed + "Special Cosmetic"

If you play a lot, you absolutely shouldn't get the Accelerated Battle Pass. Although it's cool to have the first 20 rewards as soon as you pay for the Battle Pass, there's a good chance you will finish all 90 levels within three months, if you play often enough.

What Rewards Can We Expect With The Diablo 4 Battle Pass?

Here is an outlook at some of the bigger rewards you will get for completing the whole Season 1 Battle Pass. But keep in mind, a lot of those rewards can only be earned with the paid version of the Battle Pass:

In general, the cosmetics have an appealing appearance. Nevertheless, we feel somewhat let down by the Battle Pass rewards in terms of in-game currency. Typically, we anticipate the Battle Pass to reimburse the currency invested in obtaining it (similar to the practice in CoD). Therefore, receiving only about half of the Battle Pass price in Platinum falls short.

Smoldering Ashes

Smoldering Ash will be awarded for every five levels of the Battle Pass you progress, even if you are only getting the free rewards and haven't paid for the premium Battle Pass. Smoldering Ash can be used to pay for account-wide upgrades called "Season's Blessings". It costs 1 Smoldering Ash to upgrade one of the Season's Blessings, and each Blessing can be upgraded up to four times.

As you can see, we have a number of Season's Blessings to choose from:

  • Urn of Aggression: Boost XP gain from Monster Kills (3% with each Smoldering Ash spend, up to a maximum of 4)
  • Urn of Bargaining: Boost Gold earned from Vendor sales (5% with each Smoldering Ash spend, up to a maximum of 4)
  • Urn of Reclamation: Boost chance of rare materials from salvaging (10% with each Smoldering Ash spend, up to a maximum of 4)
  • Urn of Prolonging: Boost duration of Elixirs (15% with each Smoldering Ash spend, up to a maximum of 4)

And that, ladies and gentlemen (or should we say Children of Lilith?), was your guide to the Diablo 4 Battle Pass. If you're excited for the first season to begin, and aren't sure of which class to pick for a new playthrough, maybe we can help:
