Baldur's Gate 3 is basically Dungeons & Dragons 5e: The Simulator. And so, naturally, it's an online multiplayer game that you can play with your friends. In fact, we recommend this as one of the funnest ways to play. But if you've ended up in this article, you probably aren't able to play Baldur's Gate 3 online right now.

Here is a complete guide for you on what to do when the Baldur's Gate 3 servers are down. Well, the first stage involves checking if they really are down, because if not then it's a connection issue on your end. But don't worry we have also provided some common fixes to Baldur's Gate 3 connection issues as well. Let's get started!

  • If you love BG3, check out the Starter Set for the game it's based on.

Baldur's Gate 3 Server Down? Start By Checking The Server Status

Sadly, there isn't an official site from the publisher (Larian) that keeps you up-to-date on the current network status and known issues. However, Larian does keep their official BG3 Twitter account very active. They've used this account in the past to mention issues and suggest fixes, and so we recommend starting there.

Another way to check on your connection to BG3 involves going to the Multiplayer section from the main menu. You will be able to see public games here, and you will know if you don't have a working connection if you aren't seeing any public matches to join. There is always at least a few ongoing public matches.

Baldur's Gate 3 Connection Issues: How To Fix

If everything sever-side is working, then the connection issues are probably on your end. Here are some most important things to try first to fix the problem:

  • Shut down all non-essential programs before launching the game. Things like antivirus firewalls, overlays from graphics programs, as well as chat programs, have all been known to cause issues.
  • Try switching hosts. If you already have a multiplayer save file from the original host, they can just send the save file to the new host (%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story).
  • This is a trick Larian recently suggested during Early Access: Try creating a multiplayer lobby, then exit back to the main menu and try joining again.
  • Try joining via "Direct Connection" using a Server ID. The host can get the Server ID in the lobby of a new game or the Session Settings after loading a save.

Those fixes can help you get into multiplayer games, but we're afraid none of them are a guarantee. We wish you luck, and hopefully one of the solutions will fix your Baldur's Gate 3 server issues!

And now you're back online, go have fun...
