Baldur’s Gate 3 Level Cap Explained

Here is the level cap in Baldur's Gate 3, luckily it has been risen significantly since Early Access.

Considering the 3rd installment of Baldur's Gate is adapting Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, the devs were very careful with the level cap. Because as much as high-level DnD sounds super-fun, fights at those levels can take a ridiculously long time, and spells like Wish are simply impossible to recreate in a video game. So the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 have decided to settle on a lower level cap than actual DnD.

The level cap in Baldur's Gate 3 is 12. It's also in the realm of the possibilities that the level cap might increase in the future with DLC.

They originally planned a level cap of 10, but that was scrapped, and Larian Studios stated:

Too many rad high-level speels would have been left just out of reach had we done so.

Baldur's Gate 3: What Does This Cap Indicate?

With level 12 you have access to even more abilities from the various classes and have the freedom to break out of the traditional archetypes.

Multiclassing allows you to combine the classes and build unique combinations that fit your play style. But be aware: This new freedom can be a double-edged sword. If you lose track or fall behind, keeping up with the progression can be tough. This function doesn't give you much room for errors.

If the devs from Baldur's Gate 3 go by the traditional Player's Handbook, we will eventually reach Level 20 at some point.
