Probably the turning point of why I do what I do now in music was even before I learned to play guitar, my first instrument. I remember taking a broken, out-of-tune guitar with a few strings left, and I was trying to play in my own manner melodies from songs I liked. Even though totally ‘wrong’ according to the traditional music theory, I kind of enjoyed what I was doing and my curiosity about how songs are actually played and generally made transformed into a big, huge love which leads me throughout my journey.

Inspired by a wide variety of bands and artists with prima facie nothing in common, such as Guns N’ Roses and ZHU, for example, ShadyMFK tries to find the fine line between genres as different as rock and house and explore the similar concepts behind all kinds of popular music further.

Matey Veselinov Yanev started his career in music playing guitar for a couple of local bands in his hometown Dobrich, Bulgaria and his last show as a guitarist and a band member was at the huge festival “July Morning” Kamen Bryag in 2013.

ShadyMFK’s music aims to express a balance between people as primary and emotional human beings doing different things ‘with their hands’, and the constantly evolving technology which takes a huge place in our lives. Born in a developing (ex-second-world) country, such as Bulgaria in the 1990s offers lots of challenges for him to look objectively and independently at the newest sciences and discoveries and to explore creative ideas in a safe space, which takes him toBerlin where he currently resides and develops his artistic practice.

Of course, we decided to ask them a few questions about music and video games. Here's what they had to say...

What is your favorite video game soundtrack?

GTA games have seriously good soundtracks, I can't think of my favorite at the moment.

Who's your favorite video game music composer?

Here I should mention Super Mario's composer Koji Kondo - everybody knows the theme song!

What’s your favorite video game?

Paladins.

What game inspired you to do music?

I've done a song inspired by a Paladins champion called Ying, my song is not released yet, but I have an unmastered demo.

What video game are you currently playing?

Paladins.

Would you ever like to write music for video games? What would it be like?

Yes! I'd also love to create sound designs for in-game sounds, but I can't use Unreal at the moment - too much CPU and space required.

How important is music for video games / video games for music?

Not only music, sound itself is crucial for video games.
