The new League of Legends patch 13.15 brings not only buffs, nerfs and various changes for champions and items. It also brings some quality of life changes, as described by the Riot dev team. One of these changes is related to the new LoL Arena Mode and the way XP is earned for Event Pass progression.

The community is far from pleased. Here's everything you need to know about it.

LoL Arena Players Upset About Changes To Event Pass Progression

The newly introduced Arena Mode might be one of the most played game modes in League of Legends. However, with the first patch, some changes have been made to the Arena, and one of these changes has triggered outrage within the game's community because it affects the progression through the Event Pass.

Riot Games referred to this as a Quality of Life change and explained it further on Twitter.

As you can imagine, tampering with player rewards may not be the best idea, and judging by the community's reactions, this action has not been well-received. Particularly criticized is the fact that placements now determine progression, rather than playtime, which means that inexperienced or "less skilled" players will take longer to earn their rewards.

Some community members are questioning the reasoning behind these changes. For example, the Twitter user "Drewcifer" wrote,

Not a good way to promote a new game mode ngl. Like what the actual f**** does it matter how fast someone progresses through the event pass if they still get your money from buying it anyways????

And user "Geraf25" jokingly remarked, "Well they said it's a QoL change, not QoL improvements".

The community's reaction is entirely understandable since there doesn't seem to be a clear reason why Riot Games would make such a change, other than to potentially force players to spend more time in the new game mode and play more Arena games.

It is unlikely that dedicated players wouldn't enjoy and play the mode even without rewards for doing so. ARAM is a great example of this, as in that mode, players gain nothing but level-ups and some Event Pass progression.

It remains to be seen whether Riot will respond to the criticism, but chances are slim. Only time will tell if the Arena Mode will benefit from the QoL changes and attract more players, thus extending their playtime to earn rewards.
